As we try to make meaning from our own data, it can be helpful to take a step back and think about how data informs other professions. I just read today an article from 2004 by physician/author Atul Gawande on the use of data in the medical field and found it incredibly interesting, with a lot of applications to our work in districts, schools, and classrooms. One particular point that stands out, for me, is the idea that small, incremental differences in delivery and approach can add up, over time, to significant differences in outcomes for patients. Could the same be true for our work and for our students?
