2017 MCAS Edwin Reports Available

This week the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education began releasing 2017 MCAS Edwin Reports.  The preliminary results only include multiple choice items as open response and short answer items continue to be scored.  The reports currently available for ELA, science and math grades 3-8 include:

  • School and District MCAS Item Analysis Test Summery (IT301, IT401)
  • School and District MCAS Test Item Analysis Graph (IT302, IT402)
  • MCAS Student Item Analysis Roster (IT616)

US Department of Education Launches New IDEA Website

The U.S. DOE recently re-launched its IDEA website.  The new site includes additional resources for specific audiences, including parents, teachers and grantees, as well as data reports.

New EWIS Reports and EWIS Training

In the next release of the Early Warning Indicator System (EWIS), districts will have access to new reports based on the EWIS Postsecondary Readiness model. More information about EWIS is available online.

The release of all EWIS models and reports is scheduled for the week of August 25. Please remember that to be included in the EWIS calculations, all of a district's statewide collections (SIMSEPIMSSCS, and SSDR) must be completed. Districts that do not report these data by the due dates will not have EWIS data in the initial release in Edwin Analytics for the beginning of the school year.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will be offering a full day workshop entitled "Maximizing EWIS to Improve Student Achievement" on September 18, 2017. Please encourage teams to register if possible to get the full impact from the session. For more information, email

Tiered Systems of Support Academies

The Department is pleased to offer four intensive professional development academies designed to aid school and district teams with the implementation of tiered systems of instruction and support. The academies consist of regional trainings and in-district coaching sessions over the course of three years and are focused on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Tiered Literacy, Tiered Math, and Inclusive Tier 1 Instruction. Level 3, 4, and 5 schools and districts are prioritized for enrollment and their participation is free or greatly subsidized. Completed applications must be submitted online no later than 5 p.m. Friday, August 18

Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement Reports

On June 29, ESE released to each district that has English language learners a set of Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement reports intended to help districts monitor for compliance with the current SEI endorsement requirements. The reports should be in each district's RETELL DropBox. On July 10, ESE will hold a call for all superintendents, charter school leaders, and principals to discuss the SEI endorsement reports in general and how they can be used. Superintendents, assistant superintendents, English language learner directors, and principals should have received an On the Desktop message June 22 with information on how to participate in the call.
